in immersive space
A reenactment of the computer code Dutch film artist Bart Vegter used in 2008 to generate his film ‘De Tijd’. A wall-sized projection visualizes 45 computer processes set in motion by Vegter's code, giving insight into the relationship between film, code and computer. Using a spatial interaction model the user can navigate through the visualizations.
To visualize single values in an interesting way we programmed them in hilbert curve timelines.
The total projection is split into 4 sections. One for CPU, memory, GPU and hard drive.
By moving left and right a section can be selected. Stepping forward will unfold the stack of processes.
The deepest layer is a detailed timeline of a single process. This shows timestamps on the left and calculated functions from Vegters code on the right.
Old tech for the musem
This computer from 2001 runs Vegters code and communicates its processing data to the installation. We inserted led lighting and covered the case with plexiglass to make the hardware parts visible.
